What is a “Landing Page”?
Any page on a web site where a visitor first lands is a landing page.
Many web site owners hope that new site visitors will arrive on the home page. They want everyone to come in through “the front door.”
Do you really want everyone to land on your home page?

When you're going after web site results, having everyone land on your home page can cause problems.
What are these?
- Everyone who arrives—no matter what they are looking for—sees the same page.
- If your businesses offers several different products or services, your home page may be complex.
- Visitors who arrive with very specific expectations about what they are going to find, may leave immediately.
The bottom line is this: If you're trying to get new site visitors over hurdle #1 and hurdle #2, then bringing everyone through the same door and onto the same page may be working against you. |

Think about it!
To get site visitors to recognize quickly what they are looking for . . .
. . . have a special page devoted to what they are looking for?
Let's look at some examples where this approach would make sense:
- You run an ad in your local newspaper. Instead of including your standard web site address which takes everyone to your home page, direct them to your special landing page for the product or service you're advertising.
- You run a pay-per-click ad on Google, or Yahoo, for one of your products. Instead of directing everyone to come to your home page, you direct them to your special landing page for that product.
Special landing pages make it easy to welcome new site visitors with targeted text and images. They make it much easier to get site visitors over hurdle #1 and hurdle #2.
This is e xactly what you need to get their attention and move them toward the action results you're looking for. |
